Mission

The Belgian American Society of New England or BASNE is a membership organization in the New England area that promotes the interaction between Belgians and anyone interested in Belgium, through a variety of social, cultural and business events.

Today

The Belgian people in New England are welcoming the new Honorary Consul, Mr. Jacques Longerstaey. At the same time, the organization is re-defining the activities that interest the members and brings them together. A new website and the use of new ways of communicating allow for the members to interact with different interest groups inside the wider Belgian Community in New England. Belgians are encouraged to invite their friends from New England to share with them their Belgian culture, culinary traditions, their professional interests and so much more...

History

BASNE was founded in April 1990 by Mr. Philippe Capiau, former Honorary Consul of Belgium to New England. He could count on a dynamic team of Belgian and American Board Members and the Belgian business community. The Honorary Consul Mr. Alain Marcuse took over the post in 2002 and he was very instrumental in keeping the Society vibrant. A new dedicated group of volunteer Board Members supported the organization and organized many and varieted activities.

During all these years, BASNE offered at least four events per year for the Belgian community. It included Belgian Waffle Brunches, National Day Picnics, Spring Receptions and Autumn Dinners. It organized events around visits of Belgian artists. The Saint Nicholas Party in December became the biggest hit with the children and their parents and grandparents.
